A Breathtaking Yellow Rapeseed Field

From 1970’s, farmers in the UK were encouraged to grow more rapeseeds as an increasing demand for a refined British rapeseed oil which subsequently replaced other imported refined oils. Since then rapeseed became one of the most popular crops in this country and the oil known as canola oil became widely used in other countries such as Canada and USA.

May is the best month in the UK for rapeseed flowers in full bloom which are normally harvested in August. If you are lucky enough to visit the UK during this time, you will see breathtaking rapeseed fields with beautiful bright yellow flowers through the entire country.

The rapeseed field just behind residential houses

I found this beautiful rapeseed field in Wakefield by chance on a day out without any plan. The field is located in Flockton, on the way between Huddersfield and Wakefield.  I took the bus 231 or 232 from Huddersfield Bus Station heading to Wakefield and got off at the stop Barnsley Road, Hardcastle Lane, walked past Jack’s Bar and Kitchen and then crossed the road to get to the field which is near Stoneroyd Farm.

Rapeseed oil is also my first choice for cooking in my kitchen because it is an excellent source of Vitamin E and Omega-3 fat which is really healthy for skin and heart.
